Scaling and root planing, also known as a deep cleaning, is a treatment that is used to address periodontitis, the advanced stage of gum disease. At Dental Implants & Periodontology of Rockville Center, our goal is to help you avoid the need for scaling and root planing entirely. However, you can be assured of a comfortable experience and good outcomes with a deep cleaning at our office.
Our periodontal treatment 11570 is similar to the teeth cleaning you get when you come in for a six month examination. Your regular teeth cleaning is designed to remove tartar buildup and residual dental plaque, with the benefit of reversing the effects of early stage gum disease, or gingivitis. For one of several reasons, such as not getting a teeth cleaning done on schedule, or the rapid progression of gum disease caused by an underlying condition (diabetes is one example), you may find that you periodontitis has taken hold. Whereas gingivitis is associated with relatively mild symptoms (redness and irritation), periodontitis is linked to inflammation, infection, bleeding while brushing, receding gums, persistent bad breath, and loss of gum and bone tissue. You may even end up with loose teeth if the problem goes on long enough before getting our periodontal treatment 11570. The point of a deep cleaning is to get down to the roots, where the plaque and tartar have become embedded. It’s more invasive than a teeth cleaning, but with local anesthesia, you will find the process comfortable enough. The result is that your gums begin to return to their naturally strong, vibrant, pink state once more. And it’s a crucial treatment, without which your gums would succumb to the impact of periodontal disease.
Please contact our office to arrange an appointment to come in for our six month teeth cleaning or our periodontal treatment 11570. You can’t have healthy teeth without healthy gums.
